A Memorable Trip to Mumbai’s Iconic Places

Table of Contents

Mumbai is full of history, sea views, and beautiful spots that make every trip special. On my recent visit, I explored some of the most famous places: Haji Ali Dargah, Elephanta Caves, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the new Undersea Highway, and the Hanging Gardens. Each place had its own charm and story. Here’s a look at my unforgettable day.

Haji Ali Dargah

Situated on a small islet in the Arabian Sea, Haji Ali Dargah is one of the most serene and spiritual sites in Mumbai. You need to walk along a narrow path lined by the sea on both sides to access the shrine. It was constructed in memory of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, a Sufi saint.

As I approached the white domed building, the chanting of prayers, the fresh sea air, and the peaceful environment made it a very special place. People from all faiths come here to get their blessings. I also tried the most amazing kebabs, grills and strawberry fruit cream from there.

Elephanta Caves

Next, I took a ferry from Gateway of India to reach the Elephanta Island. The ferry ride itself was fun, with seagulls flying along and the sea all around. The Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are ancient rock-cut caves with huge stone sculptures of Lord Shiva and other deities.

The most famous sculpture is the Trimurti, showing three faces of Shiva. The carvings are over a thousand years old, and it’s amazing how they were made without machines. The island is peaceful and has a lot of greenery too.

Bandra-Worli Sea Link

After returning to the city, I drove over the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, one of the most beautiful bridges in India. The bridge connects Bandra and Worli and looks stunning, especially in the evening when it lights up. The ride was smooth, and the view of the ocean on both sides was breathtaking.

Mumbai Undersea Tunnel (Coastal Road Project)

The highlight of the journey was experiencing the newly opened section of the Mumbai Coastal Road, featuring an undersea tunnel – India’s first. The tunnel passes beneath the Arabian Sea, and navigating through it was an experience of a lifetime. It’s spotless, well-lit, and shortens travel time considerably. It’s like you are within a sci-fi film for a brief moment!

Hanging Gardens

To end the day, I visited the Hanging Gardens on Malabar Hill. The place is full of flowers, greenery, and neat walking paths. From the edge of the garden, there’s a beautiful view of Marine Drive and the Queen’s Necklace lights at night. It was peaceful, cool, and a perfect way to relax after a long day.

Final Thoughts

Mumbai has something for everyone—history, nature, contemporary architecture, and spiritual places. Every location I visited had its own tale and charm. If you ever visit Mumbai, don’t miss these incredible places. It’s a trip I will never forget!
